Before you decide
Use grant checks before committing to work
A grant checker can separate an apparently suitable project from one that clearly misses a scheme rule, but it cannot issue approval. Eligibility, the maximum support available and the amount finally paid are different things. Property type, ownership, previous grants, technical standards and the route used to complete the work can all matter.
Run the relevant checker early, before accepting a quote or allowing work to begin. Scheme rules, grant values and application routes change, which is why each checker states the date it was last reviewed and the cadence it is reviewed on, and why the result is worth reading alongside the linked SEAI material rather than instead of it.
Approval normally comes before installation
Do not assume an eligible measure can be installed first and claimed later. Follow the official sequence shown for the scheme and retain the application and approval records.
Headline grant and final payment differ
The published maximum may be limited by eligible costs, property details, technical findings or the measures actually completed. Budget for the full project rather than treating the headline figure as guaranteed cash.
Contractor and technical rules matter
Registered contractors, product standards, BER evidence and post-works documentation may be part of the scheme. A competitive quote is useful only if it follows the qualifying route.
