Winter warmth
Compare a heated throw, electric blanket, fan heater, oil-filled radiator, panel heater and infrared panel on the same room and evening, and against simply running the central heating.
Before you decide
The cheapest-looking rate is not always the cheapest final option. Everyday costs can include standing charges, VAT, delivery, foreign-exchange margins, transaction fees, administration charges or different units of usage. These tools bring the important parts into one estimate so offers can be compared on the same basis.
Use current figures from a bill, checkout screen, provider tariff or written quote. A default value is a starting point, not evidence that it matches your household, purchase or business. Where a figure has to be maintained rather than entered, it is a published one: the customs calculator converts a foreign price at Revenue's own customs rate for the month, from the table Revenue publishes, with the month it is valid for named in the result.
Compare annual with annual, per-use with per-use, and delivered totals with delivered totals. Convert rates only after checking whether tax and fixed charges are already included.
A small percentage margin or fixed handling charge can reverse the result, especially on frequent transactions or low-value orders. Leave optional extras separate so the core comparison stays visible.
One unusually busy month can distort an annual estimate. Where possible use several bills or a typical range and check how the answer changes at lower and higher usage.
